Who it is for
Professions that need B2
For several healthcare professions trained at bachelor (HBO) level, the BIG-register asks for Dutch at B2 — for example physiotherapists and midwives. For you, this module is the language preparation for registration. Check the exact requirement for your profession on bigregister.nl.
Doctors and dentists
Doctors and dentists need B2+. This module takes you to B2; the next module, B2 → B2+, adds the language of the consultation room for your own profession and prepares you for the B2+ exam.
What you will be able to do
- Read newspaper articles, policy texts and short research reports about healthcare, and find the main line of argument.
- Follow radio fragments, news items and conversations between colleagues at normal speed.
- Write a formal e-mail or complaint, a summary of at most 100 words, and an argumentative text of 250–300 words.
- Describe a graph, give a short presentation and take part in a discussion with arguments for and against.
- Understand how the Dutch healthcare system, patients' rights and professional culture work — the context of your future job.
What is in every unit
- A text with audio recorded in Dutch, read along line by line.
- Vocabulary cards with the forms you will meet, and grammar patterns explained in English.
- Listening questions, and speaking tasks: listen to a question, record your answer, compare it with a model answer.
- Writing tasks with a checklist, as used in the exam.
- Diagrams for the harder topics, and links to the matching theory cards on BigMentor for those preparing for the BI-toets.
Practice tests, certificate and exam
This module does not give a language certificate. It prepares you for the
Staatsexamen Nederlands als tweede taal, programme II (B2), which you take separately.
Dutch at B1 and B2 is accepted by the BIG-register from that state exam.
- Two practice tests (units et05 and u56) follow the four parts of programme II: reading, listening, writing and speaking, with the same assessment criteria.
- You can take each practice test as often as you like.
- After a practice test you see what to repeat before you register for the real exam.
What you need
- Dutch at B1, for example after our A0 → B1 course or the Staatsexamen NT2 programme I.
- A computer or phone with headphones and a microphone for the speaking tasks.
- Nothing to buy: all texts, audio and exercises are online.
